When we pick up a coffee cup, it may look clean on the outside but you discover that the inside has stains and specks of leftover coffee grounds. Jesus reminds us to not neglect the more important items not on the surface but deep inside such as justice, mercy, and good faith.
We may exert all our energy in doing Godly things, but we do them with the wrong attitude or disposition. For example, you may serve at the homeless shelter, yet find yourself judging the people that you are serving. You may be critical of how a person at church delivers the scripture readings rather than listening intently to the words.
So the next time your mind wanders away from the Lord in judgment, stop and ask the Lord for forgiveness. He will be merciful and forgiving and encourage you to stay close to him avoiding further pitfalls. Let him keep you close to his heart as you practice being in his presence.
