I’m Not A Slave Of My Past

Daily Devotion

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
Romans 8:35

Read Romans 8:31-39

When we received Jesus as our Lord and Savior, He clothed us with a new life and identity. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” Becoming a new person in Christ does not exempt us from trials, hardships, and temptations. The enemy remains crafty. It will still try to deceive us, through our present circumstances and sometimes through our past.

We all fall short to the glory of God. Even though we have received a new life, we are still far from being perfect and righteous on our own. The enemy will sometimes bring back people or memories from the past that may steal our peace and joy, or tempt us to live in the lies and the darkness again.

In Romans 8, Paul asked, who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Can our past life separate us from Christ’s love? Never! We are not slaves of our past anymore hence we should not live in the shadows of our past. We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Pauls says neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:37-39).

Today, let us live in the truth of God’s word!
