He Is My Father

..so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

Read: John 5:16-30

“Stand up! Pick up your mat and walk!” Those were Jesus’s commands to the lame man lying by the Sheep Pool in Bethesda. This man who did not know Jesus was immediately cured and picked up his mat and began to walk. This cure was on the Sabbath. Later, in the day, Jesus found him in the temple precincts and said to him: “Remember, now you have been cured. Give up your sins so that something worse may not overtake you” (John 5:14).

Jesus never draws a one-to-one connection between sin and sickness or misfortune. Nevertheless, he regards sickness as a part of the evil introduced into the world by sin, and his mission is to destroy the kingdom of evil in all its forms.

The Jews contempt for Jesus grew out of his disregard for the Sabbath as well as his speaking of God as his own Father, thereby making himself God’s equal. Jesus’s answer to the Jews was that he and the Father are one. “The Father has given over to him the power to pass judgment because he is Son of Man” (John 5:27).

We can become “Fully Alive” in our relationship with God as we nurture the divine exchange and run into the arms of Jesus.
