Constantly Guard Your Heart

Daily Devotion

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Proverbs 4:23
Read Philippians 4:1-9

What are we allowing to come into our life? Are we always allowing the worries, stress, insults, discouragements, and offense in? Kingdoms and castles always build strong walls because it is their main line of defense. It protects them from the outsiders and any possible attacks. Do we also have walls that guard our hearts?

We always have to guard our hearts and not allow in things such as insults, anxiety, anger, frustrations, and other things that will not edify us. We have to choose our battles and quit allowing everything on the inside. Yes, there will always be problems, there will always be people who will offend us, there will always be stress at work, there will always be “bashers!” But how will we respond? Are we just going to let them in our spirit? We can’t prevent them, but we can choose not to dwell on them. We can dismiss them and be more selective in what we will allow entering our souls. It is very important to always guard our hearts. Our destiny is too important to allow in the things that will never benefit us.

Not all people will like you. There are things that will always come against you. There will always be a phrase that can offend you. Choose not to dwell on the things that are unnecessary. Stop wasting your time trying to win them over, that is not your destiny. You do not need their approval to become what God wants you to be. Don’t let them have the power to offend you and steal the joy from your heart. Rather, dwell on whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable (Philippians 4:8).

Don’t let everything in, guard your heart.
